Steiner 12 Days of Christmas Children's Festival

It was nice to continue with Christmas celebrations with our Steiner playgroup.

All the children gathered to listen to the Nativity story

They painted stars shining in the night sky

Each child made small floating candles from shells

and celebrated with songs and dance.

Our Steiner playgroup meets every Monday afternoon at the Greytown Library.

Bring a piece of fruit to share and a coin donation.

Sadie picked herself a small branch on our way home from the library this afternoon.

She put it in a little cut glass vase and placed it on her table in the play room.

Another sneak peak

This week has been a bit surreal.  It's been hard to be enthusiastic and motivated with what has happened this week in Christchurch.  Like most of the country I have been glued to the television in disbelief. 

To raise funds for the Christchurch people we are having a book sale at the Greytown Library.  If any locals would like to donate any unwanted books, bring them in for the 'sale table'.   Any donation, no matter how large or small will be greatly appreciated.   

Nevertheless, I still have a dead line with the Martinborough Fair being held in one week.  I've been busy with Pillowslip dresses, upcycled vests, wool tunic dresses and of course the pixie hats.

Craft Country Fair ~ Greytown

1 year old

Our little man turned 1 year old today.  Such a happy day!

I got up early to make him a birthday cake before I went to work.   I left the cake on the kitchen table under a cloth to cool and the plan was to have the cake when I got home at mid day.  I was at work for about half an hour and Ian phones.   A little Sadie mouse had found the it and nibbled her way round the edge of the cake!  So Daddy and Charlie made another one and when I got home we iced it for Oscar, decorated it with hundreds and thousands and fresh strawberries.  Little Sadie mouse a big slice too!

For Oscar's present we bought him a wooden wagon from our Toy Maker.  It's fantastic and all the kids are having great fun with it.  The crate part lifts off so you can use it as a cart as well.  I envision all sorts of things being piled up inside and carted around the house.

The library

I had a great first week at the local library.  It's been a good way to meet more local people and families and everybody has been very welcoming.  The library space is lovely to work in, it's bright and airy.  It's housed in the old town hall which was built in 1907, but a few years back it was totally renovated and now is a space for the community to gather, has offices, the information center, public toilets and of course this very new and funky library.  Take a look around. xx

Looking back ~ May 09

Thank-you once again for all your kind comments and well wishes.  My first two days at my new work have been great.  The children have settled really well into their new routine and it's wonderful to be home in the afternoon ~ washing bought in, fires lit and dinner cooking before 'arsenic hour' begins. 

I'm hoping to get some photographs posted of the new house soon, but I have been waiting for a 'sunny' day.  It's a bit gray at present and we are needing some sunlight for our souls.

Life

After a discussion, Ian and I 'googled' the top 10 most stressful events one can endure in life.  The discussion started by reflecting what we've accomplished in 8 short months.

~ We sold our house
~ We shifted
~ We had a baby
~ Ian started a new job
~ Ian lost his job 
~ Ian started another new job
~ We bought a house
~ We moved...again

And amongst all that I decided to apply for a position at the local library here in Greytown.  I found out the same day we took possession of the house that my application was successful.  For me personally this is a huge step.  I have been working in the same library for 16 years.  I started there when I was 20 years old and in that time I have grown and developed as a person.  My last day is this Saturday and I will be taking up my new position at Greytown Library on Monday. 

It will mean no more traveling with three children in the car (just under three hours a week).  No more getting home in the dark with three tired children.   I will have better hours where I'll be finished and home after lunch everyday to be with the children and establish a regular routine with them at home.  It will also give me the opportunity to become a face in the community and develop new relationships.  I'm feeling anxious and excited and also contented that everything has worked out for us here.
