On Saturday afternoon the children helped me prepare the beds for the early peas. The peas were a huge hit last season I wanted to plant plenty for this year.
They were all keen to help.
Charlie: The sensitive gardner
Charlie helped by digging the earth over
and collecting compost.
But then he began to worry about how many insects and worms were being damaged in the process.
In the end he had to sit out the digging part.....
quite concerned that the bugs were being hurt.
but got back into things when it was time to sow the seeds.
Dear, dear Charlie......you truly are an old soul.
Sadie: The distracted gardener
It was Sadie who started out with the most enthusiasm....
but ended up being totally distracted by all the insects she found to the point where she was really no help at all.
She collected beetles and worms and let slaters crawl up her arm.
Dear, dear Sadie.....we always have to play the game by your rules, but that's all right.
Oscar: The all rounder
My goodness can Oscar work!
He dug....
He took rubbish to the trailer....
filled his wheelbarrow with compost.....and emptied it into the garden.
Dear, dear Oscar......you have fun no matter what you are doing
He made me laugh when he put an empty snail shell up to his ear.
All cleaned up and watching the sprinkler.
Great work team!
