Stuffies

School holidays + rain + a little dusting of snow  = stuffies

Stuffies is a little sewing project for kids from this book.

I didn't follow strictly to the book, so this is our version.

I cut an A4 size piece of linen for each child and they drew a picture of their choice.

Charlie drew a dinosaur and Sadie a turtle.

Using crayons they coloured in their picture.  At one point they started using felt tip pens as well, but it still worked fine.

Ironing their picture using a piece of grease proof paper on top melted the crayons into the fabric.

They then chose another piece of fabric to use as a backing, I helped them pin the two pieces together and cut around their shape.  

They then whipped stitched around the shape with a large needle and tapestry wool, leaving an opening for the stuffing before finishing off.

Very proud of their work.

Product Review

Huggies DryNites

When I was asked to do a product review for Huggies DryNites, I have to admit I had mixed emotions.
I was struggling with the environmental aspect and also admitting that I have a bed wetter.

Like any mother I had to weigh up the environmental factors of putting plastic into landfills against using water and energy to wash and dry blankets and sheets during the winter period.

The biggest factor was having to deal with a disappointed child each morning as I changed wet bedding and clothes.  Something had to change, so decided to try the Huggies DryNites to help me with the bed wetting problem.

The first thing I noticed was the child felt no embarrassment having to wear a pull up to bed.  They look like underpants and they could put it on themselves.

The first few mornings it was business as usual, but this time because of the Huggies DryNites it meant dry sheets and dry clothing.  By the fourth morning something happened, dry! and the next and the next.  We reused the dry pull up the next night to reduce waste.

What I think has started to happen is that the child has started to build confidence and we haven't had a wet night since (knock on wood.) 

A happy mama and a very happy child!

Little window shoppers

Hope and Glory have opened their doors in Main Street, Greytown.

I took my two little window shoppers in to check it out.

Vanya and Sam have made a wonderful job, with a little more work yet to do inside and out; but the shop still looked gorgeous.

 

They both understand the words 'look, but no touch'.....

But sometimes someone needs a little more reminding!

First magnolia

The first magnolia's have just started to flower.

Sadie picked herself a small branch on our way home from the library this afternoon.

She put it in a little cut glass vase and placed it on her table in the play room.

A nice centre piece for her afternoon tea party.

Hope & Glory

Hope & Glory is on the move ~ to Greytown ~ whoopee!

 

The new store is much bigger and has a series of rooms that will be zoned for different experiences.  Vanya has an incredible eye for all things gorgeous, so expect lots vintage ware, jewellery, home ware and things for the little ones.

H&G will be sharing the space with The Toolbox Petone, who are opening a Greytown branch. The Toolbox is a guys paradise, a mix of vintage tools, hi-fi, coffee machines, watches etc and in the Greytown branch Sam is adding - retro furniture, lighting, glassware to name a few. It will be a great place to leave your chap happily engrossed while you have a lovely time in h&g without a bored man in tow!

The grand opeing is tomorrow.  I popped my head in this afternoon, Vanya and Sam will be pulling a late nighter, but it will be worth it.  The shop is looking amazing.
