Recently I have made a new friend ~ Joke.  I first met Joke at the Martinborough Fair where she was selling her line of clothes, Hikkepik.  (Hikkepik means 'hiccup' in Belgium.)  I had been admiring her clothes on Felt for a long time and was excited to finally purchase a pair of everlasting pants for Oscar.   I love her European style, especially for boys.

I was so pleased with the pants I bought, I thought I would invite Joke to take part in my sponsored giveaways.  A few emails and a play date later I'm excited to introduce you all to Joke of Hikkepik.

 Hi, my name is Joke and I'm from Belgium and have been living in New Zealand for over 10 years. I have a Kiwi husband who loves fixing old motorbikes, a six and a five year old boy and a one year old girl who all keep me very busy and amused.

Inspired by the amazing clothes sewn by my mama in Belgium and an obsession for fabrics, I decided to do a small sewing course. I would often sew for friends and family and was encouraged to start up my 'Hikkepik' clothing adventure.

My 'passion' has now grown into an additction with stocks of fabrics, patterns and so many ideas in my head, I know I will have years left of happy creating days!

This really is an everlasting pants !

You start wearing it as a long pants, than as a three quarter pants and even later as a short pants !

It is made of a 100% heavy weight cotton, and is of a navy blue color with very fine white and chocolate brown stripes on.

There are elastics in both the waist and hems for an easy fit !

You can start wearing the pants from around 24 months to 36 months, and you will still wear them when you are five even six years old ~ depending on how tall your little one grows.

Autumn nature table

Our autumn nature table is filling up with found and foraged treasures.

 

 
  I love walking past and noticing something new that one of the children have added.

I'm taking part in the Four Seasons Exchange and have received my first swap from Sara.

She looks over our little treasures.  

 

My current obsession......

is hunting and photographing fungi, toadstools and mushrooms.

I find them in the garden, reserves and parks.  Rotten stumps are great as well as old trees. They're fascinating to inspect closely, their beauty, texture, color, construction and the little world of insects they house.

Last weekend the kids and I were lucky enough to visit Fantail Grove where olives, grapes and hazelnuts are grown locally by Margot and Richard.  Fantail Grove is located on main road between Greytown and Martinborough and makes an interesting visit.

First the children picked their own grapes which they loved, especially Oscar.  They were sweet, sticky and delicious.

 

 

Margot then showed us the variety of hazelnuts they harvested that day.   

The kids were keen to go for a walk and Margot took us on a guided tour of their property.   The kids enjoyed playing in the long thick dewy grass in the beautiful olive grove.

 

Margot is very passionate about her product which made a fascinating insight on the various olive types and the life cycle of a hazelnut.  

Harvesting hazelnuts is quite labor intensive and the kids had a giggle when they saw Richard experimenting with a vacuum cleaner to suck the hazelnuts off the ground.  

I would highly recommend a visit, the children just loved it....and of course you can purchase olive oil, hazelnuts and at the moment ~ pick your own grapes.
