Our region has been celebrating the Winter Solstice and Matariki for the past month. This weekend we had the annual Winter Solstice fair at Clareville Showgrounds. It was cold, wet and very muddy. I was beginning to regret dragging the kids out when I suddenly spied this wee treasure on a stall selling various pre-loved bits and pieces.
She is a handmade cloth doll with wool hair, an unusual embroidered face, a sweet wee tartan dress, the most adorable stockings and small leather shoes.
Charlie took a shining to her instantly and held on tight to her for quite a while.
I love how unusual she is. Someone spent a lot of thought, time and love creating her. I have no idea how old she is, where she has come from or what her name is. So suggestions please in what we should name her. I think she may have a Scottish background considering the tartan dress and red hair!
