Christmas was very exciting this year, all slightly overwhelming for Charlie, but he was extremely pleased with his new trike! My favorite gift given to Sadie was an amber teething necklace , if all else it is very pretty.
Christmas was slightly marred by my mixed emotions in returning to work today. An array of feelings washing over me, combined with excitement, guilt and anxiety on how Sadie was going to cope without me for the first time and me without her. But we both survived the day..... until tomorrow when I'm sure I will feel those emotions all over again, but knowing that everyday it will be a little less extreme.
Charlie turned two today! He took part in all his favorite activities. First up it was pancakes for breakfast at his favorite cafe, the Trocodero. A stop off at the motorbike shop where the men let him sit on a 'REAL' motorbike, then it was a visit to the Middleton Model Railway where he got to drive
Thomas the Tank Engine model railway. Then his highlight of the day was his birthday cake. His face just lit up with joy, blowing out the candles. So much so we had to relight them three times. I called it off when he started going cross eyed and turning blue with so much blowing! Happy Birthday Charlie! Love Momma, Daddy and Sadie. xxx
Charlie helped me to pod peas this afternoon. The wonderful aroma of fresh peas! He enjoyed running them through his fingers and chasing after them as they POPPED out of their shells. Children remind you of the simple pleasures of life.
The rain was a relief today. It has been threatening for a couple of days now. We ventured out to the public library and then to our local cafe, but the rest of the day was spent inside doing bits and pieces. Sadie found comfort in sleeping in the sun porch on Charlie's bean bag, Charlie rediscovered his blocks and I found the time to dye and decorate a new vest for my shop. Couldn't ask for a better day really.
Petone is a great little place for shopping. We always go to La Bella Italia for lunch and purchase a few essential Italian cooking items. I bought a funky hoody for Charlie from Scintilla who make original clothing here in New Zealand for adults and children and lastly I got the most amazing dress for Sadie made by Lone Moose a Wellington designer from a shop called Wanda Harland. So it was a successful shopping trip all round!
Christmas has never been so exciting! Even thou the children are too little to understand the concept, Charlie is beginning to identify certain images with Christmas, for example Christmas trees. We purchased our Christmas tree from the local Classic Christmas Trees growers in Greytown. We buy one special decoration every year. This year we bought a New Zealand inspired Takahe Xmas decoration with Paua shell detail, purchased from Kirkcaldie and Stains Xmas shop in Wellington.
At the moment I am in count down mode. I have three weeks left of my maternity leave before I have to go back to work. I have been here before with my first child Charlie. He is nearly two and loves having a new baby sister, Sadie. She is 3 1/2 months and is a real treat!
