Winter has well and truly hit. The washing monster is slowly making it's way out of the laundry room and making it's way into the rest of the house.
There has been a little break in weather, but another front is on it's way so Hugo and I went out for quick walk down to the post office for some exercise.

We got up close with a wood pigeon eating some early flowering kowhai flowers.

There seems to be a birthday party every weekend, this weekend being no exception.

Oscar, Hugo and myself planned a trip to town today. Oscar needed to buy a birthday present for his friend Cameron. He chose a dinosaur activity book, a pack of felt tip pens and dinosaur pencil.
We did a couple of op-shops until Hugo decided he had had enough. We didn't find a lot. I got a cute little summer romper for Hugo and a pair of vintage knitting needles. Oscar found a toy lion that he quite liked.
We visited my old work place to show off Hugo ~ I can't believe it's been three years since I left my old job!

and then Oscar went to his swimming lessons where he learnt how to put his head under water!

To Oscar's excitement (he's insect mad) we found a praying mantis on a piece of wood that was just about to be put onto the fire.
We bought him a bug cage a few weeks back and he was keen to make a little praying mantis environment for him. He's been looking after it for 10 days now and it's even had an over night stay at kindy.
Daddy and Oscar catch live flies to feed it. It's fascinating watching and waiting for the mantis to strike it's prey and literally eat it alive. Amazing creatures. Praying mantis live up to 6 months, I don't think we will keep it in doors that long, just until the novelty has worn off.

Ready for a Sunday drive in the country
Thanks to bad weather and postponements last week, Hugo and I was able to attend Charlie and Sadie's school cross country at Barton's Farm today.
It was muddy and a bit cold, but the sun was out and it was great to get some fresh countryside air.
Hugo was happy ~ wrapped up in his woolens and passed around from friend to friend, all keen to have snuggle with him.

We are home, happy and contented.
Still here waiting. I'm really enjoying the time I have, especially now winter seems to have set in.
Today was a perfect day to settle in front of the fire with my recent purchase, Sweet & Simple Handmade by Melissa.
The book hasn't disappointed, pure Tiny Happy inspiration.
This baby is going to be most snuggly when he arrives.
This piece I have hand dyed in navy blue and added the little embroidery detail. Just hoping it doesn't look like a funny looking Xmas tree, but I love the colours.
This little yellow set I found at the thrift store for $1.50, super cute with a little embroidery.
The back is a bit messy, but it was fun to do.
